What is a ‘Virus’?How Does a Virus Work?

What is a ‘Virus’?
What is a ‘Virus’?How Does a Virus Work?

A computer virus is a program or piece of code that operates by attaching itself to some other program or downloaded file. When this program starts, the virus code unintentionally runs, replicates itself and infects other programs or documents on the PC. A computer virus spreads mainly via e-mail attachments, downloadable files from the Internet or floppy disks. Virus infection can be prevented by installing (and maintaining) anti-virus software, among other strategies, some of which are outlined in this advice sheet. A computer virus can seriously damage or completely destroy files or software on a computer. The result is that files may be lost permanently, educational programs may not function correctly or the overall performance of a computer may be slowed down. The process involved in repairing the damage can be time consuming and expensive.

How Does a Virus Work?
There are two ways in which a virus behaves when activated.
      •  Direct Action – the virus is activated immediately, frequently relying on other
programs to infect and carry out specific behaviour encoded by the author of the
         virus.
      • Memory Resident – the virus is loaded into the computer’s memory and is activated
by a triggering event. A triggering event can be either a date or a certain combination
       of keystrokes.
The damage caused by computer viruses varies from poor computer performance to erasing the hard drive

Preventing Virus Infection :
• Install and regularly update anti-virus software. This, in conjunction with good
housekeeping, can greatly reduce the threat caused by computer viruses.
• All floppy disks or other removal media, should remain within the confines of the
computer room. It is not advisable to let students bring them home or return with them
to school. However, if this occurs they should be scanned immediately using antivirus software. Floppies should also be write-protected.
• Files should be saved to a designated hard drive where incoming files can be
scanned automatically by anti-virus software.
• When the sender of an e-mail is not known to the recipient, avoid clicking on
attachments containing an executable file.
• Creating back-ups of files won’t directly prevent virus infection, but it may speed up
the recovery process in the event of a virus erasing or damaging files.

Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer:

The Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer is strong on gadget appeal, but it's limited to a 2- by 3-inch photo size and less than ideal photo quality.Polaroid invented instant photography. Shoot a picture, and 60-seconds later you had a snapshot in hand. It's the archetypical Polaroid experience. The Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer ($150 street) largely recreates that experience for the digital photography age.

The printer is built around ZINK technology, which was unveiled in 2007 at Demo 07, and shown again earlier this year at CES. Briefly, ZINK technology, which stands for zero ink, embeds clear dye crystals in photo paper, and then uses heat to activate color in the crystals. The paper itself includes a clear polymer overcoat that helps protect the image and makes the photos feel more like flexible plastic than like traditional photo paper. Even so, the paper has the same look as traditional glossy photo paper and a similar thickness.

By essentially including the ink in the paper, ZINK technology makes setup trivial. Simply open the paper tray cover, drop in the paper, and close the cover. Assuming the battery is charged, you're ready to print. Not so incidentally, Polaroid says a fully charged battery is good for 15 photos, which should be enough in most cases to let you treat the printer much like a cell phone, taking it with you during the day, and recharging at night, as needed. As you might expect, the printer comes with an AC adaptor that will both let you charge the battery and print while the battery is being charged.

top 5 best internet browser

web browser:

A web browser  is a software application for retrieving, presenting and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URL) and may be a web page, image, video or other piece of content. Hyperlinks present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources. Although browsers are primarily intended to use the World Wide Web, they can also be used to access information provided by web servers in private networks or files in file systems. The major web browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Safari.

1:Google Chrome:

Google Chrome is a freeware web browser developed by Google. It used the WebKit layout engine until version 27 and, with the exception of its iOS releases, from version 28 and beyond uses the WebKit fork Blink. It was first released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on September 2, 2008, and as a stable public release on December 11, 2008. Net Applications has indicated that Chrome is the third-most popular web browser when it comes to the size of its user base, behind Internet Explorer and Firefox. StatCounter, however, estimates that Google Chrome has a 39% worldwide usage share of web browsers making it the most widely used web browser in the world.

2:Mozilla Firefox:

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser developed for Windows, OS X and Linux, with a mobile version for Android, by Mozilla Foundation and its subsidiary, the Mozilla Corporation. Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine to render web pages, which implements current and anticipated web standards. As of July 2013, Firefox has approximately 16% to 21% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, making it the third most used web browser, according to different sources. According to Mozilla, Firefox counts over 450 million users around the world. The browser has had particular success in Indonesia, Germany, and Poland, where it is the most popular browser with 57%, 45%, and 44% of the market share, respectively

3:Internet Explorer:

Internet Explorer  is a series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft and included as part of the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems, starting in 1995. It was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads, or in service packs, and included in the OEM service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows.

4:Opera Mini:

Opera Mini is a web browser designed primarily for mobile phones, smartphones and personal digital assistants. Until version 4 it used the Java ME platform, requiring the mobile device to run Java ME applications. From version 5 it is also available as a native application for Android, bada, iOS, Symbian OS, and Windows Mobile. Opera Mini is offered free of charge, supported mainly through deals with mobile operators to have Opera Mini pre-installed in phones, and other sources of revenue such as search advertising deals, licensing and paid bookmarks and Speed Dial placement. Opera Mini was derived from the Opera web browser for personal computers, which has been publicly available since 1996. Opera Mini began as a pilot project in 2005. After limited releases in Europe, it was officially launched worldwide on January 24, 2006.

coggles . A Simple Mind-Mapping Tool

coggles . A Simple Mind-Mapping Tool

Coggle is a freeware mind-mapping web application. Like other mind-mapping software, Coggle produces hierarchically structured documents, like a branching tree. This contrasts with conventional collaborative editors, like Google Docs, which provide either linear (text document), or tabular (spreadsheet) document formats. Its authors promise that it will be "free forever"
Coggle supports export to PNG image and vector PDF formats, and import from plain-text outlines, but there is no known support for importing or exporting to the common FreeMind file format.
Coggle was voted amongst the top-5 mind-mapping applications by the readers of Lifehacker in April 2013, three months after the website was first registered.
Coggle has had a strong reception amongst the education community, praised for its simplicity and ease of use compared to other mind-mapping software.PC World has criticized the visually simple user-interface for hiding too many elements, making advanced feature discovery difficult.

Asus Eee PC T91 touch screen laptop

Asus Eee PC T91

The Asus Eee T91 is a touchscreen netbook from the Asus Eee PC range. It is similar in specification to other netbooks, but features a 8.9" rotatable touchscreen and a retractable stylus. With the release of Windows 7, Asus released the T91MT with a capacitive touchscreen, designed for multitouch.
The T91 looks and feels small and light, even for a Netbook. That's because it's built around a 9-inch screen, rather then the bigger 10-inch (and now 11.6-inch) displays found in most current Netbooks. The obvious compromises, besides the smaller display, are the tiny keyboard and touch pad, but the tradeoff is a system that's very svelte and easy to carry. It's smaller even than the original 7-inch Eee PC. Of course, a touch-screen laptop is not meant to be primarily used with a traditional keyboard and touch pad. The screen on the Eee PC T91 is a resistive touch panel, so it works with any input device, such as your fingers or the included nonactive stylus. And because using a small touch screen, whether on a 9-inch Netbook or an even smaller UMPC, can be a hassle when trying to fumble around Windows XP, Asus has included a custom interface meant for finger-driven computing.
You launch the Touch Gate interface by either tapping a physical button on the screen bezel (you hold the same button down to rotate through screen orientations), launching from a desktop shortcut, or by tapping a launch button on the Mac-like Eee dock bar that sits at the top of the Windows XP desktop.
There's a short animation of the screen rotating, landing on the main Touch Gate interface window. This screen holds five large app icons, meant for easy tapping with a finger or stylus. A small button at the bottom of the screen brings up a longer list of apps, and you can drag choices onto or off of the large five-app menu bar, setting up your own custom collection of frequently used apps.
Besides the custom version of Internet Explorer that includes some useful finger gesture controls (although we'd much rather see a version of Firefox), Asus also includes a handful of proprietary software packages, including notepad and memo programs for handwriting notes. Most interesting was FotoFun, which lets you flip through photo galleries, moving and rotating photos with your finger (similar to what we've seen in HP's TouchSmart systems).
By flicking your finger (or the stylus) near the right side of the main Touch Gate screen, the display flips to the third interface, a full-screen widget dock built around the Yahoo Widget engine. You can drag different widgets--from clocks to calendars to battery life indicators--anywhere on the screen. Asus includes several useful widgets to start with, and more are available from Yahoo.
Flicking your finger near the right side of the Widget screen will take you back to the main Windows XP desktop. From there, you'll have to launch the Touch Gate interface via one of the shortcut buttons to get back to it.

What is Antivirus? How antivirus software works?

What is Antivirus? How antivirus software works?

Antivirus is software used to prevent, detect and remove malware , such as: computer viruses, malicious BHOs, hijackers, ransomware, keyloggers, backdoors, rootkits, trojan horses, worms, malicious LSPs, dialers, fraudtools, adware and spyware. Computer security, including protection from social engineering techniques, is commonly offered in products and services of antivirus software companies. This page discusses the software used for the prevention and removal of malware threats, rather than computer security implemented by software methods.

How antivirus software works
It identifies file patterns and file activity which indicates any kind of attack on the machine or any of its' stored files. It tries to fix any infected real file and to delete any file which is itself a virus or spyware. It places files in the vault before trying to fix them, then replaces them with the repaired file. Any file it can not delete it places in the vault. The vault is na area it sets as unable to run any program from when it is installed. This prevents them from going any harm. If the machine restarts and runs correctly with current files in the vault, empty it. Do NOT attempt to delete them, as your accessing them actually removes the protection. If there is a problem with the machine after an infection is stopped, these files may indicate where the problem is.

Internet download managers can dramatically accelerate the download speed. There are a lot of internet download managers available on the internet. Some are paid and some are completely free. These specialized software can boost download speed by using optimization techniques. I’m going to tell you 5 best internet download software for Windows computers.

Mastercraft Dialspeed Padlock

Mastercraft Dialspeed Padlock

Mastercraft’s Dialspeed is an electronic substitute for the humble combination lock. While there are less combinations (seeing as how codes are composed of up, down, left and right commands), length of passcodes more than makes up for it – as does ease of use. Battery life is approximately 5 years, and the centre indicator warns you by changing colour. Just program in a Mortal Kombat fatality command and you’re all set. the lock includes adhesive letters, numbers, colors, shapes and symbols that can be applied over the lock’s directional arrows.

Pocket Projector (Handheld projector)

Pocket Projector (Handheld projector)

A Handheld projector or  pocket projector , is a new technology that applies the use of an image projector in an handheld device. It is a response to the emergence/development of compact portable devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and digital cameras, which have sufficient storage capacity to handle presentation materials but little space to accommodate an attached display screen. Handheld projectors involve miniaturized hardware and software that can project digital images onto any nearby viewing surface.

Applications:
Handheld projector can be used for different applications than small conventional projectors. Since 2008 researchers are studying applications that are specifically designed for handheld projectors often using prototypes of mobile phones with an integrated projector.

Mobile:
Recent mobile phones have the ability to store thousands of photos and can be used to take photos with resolutions up to several megapixels. Viewing the photos is restricted by the phones' small displays. Projector phones allow photographs to be shared with a larger audience. One study found that people preferred to view and share photos with projector phones, compared to using conventional mobile phones.

Gaming:
Handheld projectors, in particular projector phones, could offer new possibilities for mobile gaming, as demonstrated by the adaptation of the PlayStation 3 game LittleBigPlanet. Digislide has developed the WeSii "Home Theatre in Your Hand" which sets the Wii free from the TV. WeSii won two iAwards in Australia in 2010. WeSii™ is a dockable/decoupable projector and audio system that enables the Nintendo Wii™ to travel anywhere you want to go. An infrared curtain has been designed into the WeSii™ audio system, so there’s no need for the fragile Wii™ sensor bar to travel. Furthermore, the WeSii™’s infrared curtain has an expanded capacity, allowing individual players to spread further out and use more physicality in their game.

Hand gesture recognition:
Size reduction of mobile devices is often limited by the size of the used display. Apart from the display a complete phone can be, for example, integrated in a headset. It has been demonstrated that pico projectors integrated in headsets could be used as interaction devices, e.g., using additional hand and finger tracking.

Pointer-based computer control:
Combining a pico projector with a webcam, a laser pointer, and image processing software enables full control of any computing system via the laser pointer. Pointer on/off actions, motion patterns (e.g., dwell, repetitive visit, circles, etc.) and more can all be mapped to events which generate standard mouse or keyboard events, or user-programmable actions.

Waterproof Smartphone Case:

Waterproof Smartphone Case:

Waterproof smartphone case allow you to make photograph and  videos 20 feet under water.you can take picture while swimimg.they are expensive, around 70$ but they are completely unbreakable, waterproof, shockproof, literally life proof.Waterproof smartphone cases used to be bulky, ungainly contraptions, but they've been trimming down lately. That said, building a truly waterproof case is not easy (a waterproof case is defined as one that can be fully submerged underwater for at least 30 minutes). Often there are trade-offs in creating a waterproof design, the biggest of which usually involves access to the headphone jack on your phone. They also tend to be pricey, usually costing more than $50. In boiling down the best of what's currently out there, I tried to provide a good mix of well-designed cases with a few more-affordable options that are a step up from a Ziplock bag. There still aren't a ton of great waterproof options, but ever since the Lifeproof cases became so popular, plenty of competitors have jumped into the ring. If you think I missed any or have used any of the cases in the roundup, feel free to post a comment. I'll be updating this list as more products arrive.

How technology affects our children?

How technology affects our children?

Technology is not necessarily bad, but it is everywhere. Today's younger generation knows their way around all kinds of technical gadgets. Cell phones, iPods, Blackberries, and so forth find their way into kids' hands and from there to the dinner table, bedroom, living room, and everywhere else in the home. And then there is the computer itself - whether desktop or laptop, young people spend time on social networks and in chat rooms. So how does all this technology affect your kids?
Child Development:
The ability to reason critically seems to be affected by technology. This may be because technological activities tend to diminish the attention span, making it harder for kids to concentrate long enough to solve a complex problem
Health Related Issues :
Obesity among children is rising at an alarming rate. It has been said that many more children may actually be obese and not counted as such, because we have gotten so used to overweight children that we don't know what a normal child looks like.  Technology, while a useful tool, requires kids to sit still and "vegetate." They are not running around, playing outside, or doing other active things while engrossed in their technological world. Also, kids tend to snack when they are watching TV, playing computer games, and so forth. The combination of burning few calories and taking lots of calories in is a recipe for obesity.
Chabging Social Norms:
While this generation may be the most connected generation ever, this ability to  instantly contact anyone may pose a great risk to young children. When people interact  with one another through the Internet or cell phones, it is a far different social experience  than speaking with someone one-on-one. When we communicate in these ways, we are  hidden behind the ‘digital wall,’ which can allow us to have conversations we might not  have in person. For instance, users of dating websites will be more likely to ask someone  to chat on the site than they would be if it were a face-to-face interaction. Hiding behind  the digital veil for media based conversations has caused children to develop a disconnect  from others, and even from themselves.
